The authors of the #1 bestselling cookbook in Canada called, “The Looneyspoons Collection” are sisters and hosts of a healthy cooking show on Food Network Canada called, "Eat, Shrink & Be Merry".
I've watched Janet & Greta Podleski on their TV show, in commercials and my father-in-law was the proud owner of their recipe book, "Crazy Plates". They've been a part of my kitchen for years. So when Greta emailed me personally to ask if I'd share with my readers not only about what she calls their "TLC" cookbook but to also GIVE ONE AWAY... I was HONOURED! K... when the star-struck, jaw-dropping, dumb-fondness wore off... the honour set in! :)
Get ready to lift weights cause "The Looneyspoons Collection" is big!! 400 pages with 325 recipes and tons of gorgeous food photos, plus hundreds of healthy eating tips {Nutritional Nuggets} thanks to Janet, a Registered Holistic Nutritionist.
One of my favourite Nutritional Nuggets of Janet's is on page 9, "Tea-rrific tummy toner: Drinking strong green tea within two hours after eating a meal increases fat breakdown by one-third!" Then there's the nugget on page 11... and page 36 or page 185 and page 303... seriously... I could go on!!
If the cartoon characters don't have you chuckling... the recipe titles will! My 9 year old appreciates a good joke and this recipe book had him giggling. He read through it cover to cover. With titles like "Dilly Beloved" baked chicken breasts with maple, mustard, lemon and dill or "The Thigh's the limit" baked chicken thighs in a unique, gingery salsa sauce, make meal times much more interesting.
Really, it's more than a recipe book, it's a conversation-starter, coffee-table book! Don't put this one on the shelf, leave it out for all to see! I recommend you chain it to the table like a bank chains the pens to the counters... they'll try to steal it, I'm sure.

Well, I did not want to learn from my mom. I wanted to try exotic dishes...so I learned from various cooking shows and cookbooks. Now, I ask her for recipe favourites!
ReplyDeleteThanks.
I learned a LOT of cooking and baking from my Great-Grandma. Lots of practical type things. My husband also sorta 'set me free' in the kitchen by teaching me that recipes, often, are just outlines to go by and it's OK to embellish and do things differently. Since then, I've taught myself a LOT of cooking stuff, just by trying new things.
ReplyDeleteI know I live in a cave, but I had not heard of these great ladies at all, nor their TV show or their cookbook. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
