Did you know, one in six children go to school hungry each day in Canada?!
Join the conversation and be a part of the Agents of Change movement! I’ll be on Twitter with a few of my friends on February 2nd to talk about Student Nutrition and the impact Food Insecurity has on kids. Stop in online from 1-1:30pm EST and again from 9-9:30pm EST. Follow the #Toonies4Tummies hashtag and follow @Groceryfndtn on Twitter.
Canada is the only G8 country without a national school-based feeding program!
Children cannot learn, they cannot thrive, if they are not well-nourished!
Join us as we spread awareness and raise funds to support local programs which feed hungry children in schools all across Ontario!
The #Toonies4Tummies program which is available online and in nearly 400 participating retailers across Ontario, February 4th – 18th, is brought to you by The Grocery Foundation, it helps support school nutrition programs which are available to more than 800,000 children across Ontario. You can track your $2 by entering your postal code on the Toonies for Tummies website. It’s important to note: 100& of monies raised go back in full to programs in the region(s) where they are collected.
The impact of student nutrition programs on school-aged children is very positive on many levels:
- conflict resolution,
- class participation, and
- problem solving to name a few.
In the midst of the Toonies for Tummies campaign, The Grocery Foundation is hosting their very first Agents of Change Summit in Toronto on February 8th, “The Summit will help us engage students and lend their voice to efforts to promote awareness and engagement in efforts supported by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, and supported by its partners, including The Grocery Foundation.” Eleven high school students from across Ontario will come together to present their ideas to help change the conversation and results around student nutrition and the impact it has on school aged children.
Also keep your eyes open for The Grocery Foundation the first week in February on Breakfast Television – Toronto, and for the Toonies for Tummies contest which will enable you to win grocery gift cards, free sponsor products. There will also be an opportunity to have a donation made to a local school nutrition program in your area!
